About DuskMeet
People worth knowing, for friendship, love, learning, work and community, with the reasons written down.
The problem we started from
Apps that hand you an unlimited queue are not helping you choose. They are moving the work of choosing onto you and calling it freedom. After a hundred profiles, the hundred and first is not a person any more, it is a card.
Scarcity is not a growth tactic here. A short list is the only format in which reading somebody's answers carefully is a reasonable thing to ask.
What that means in the product
A small set each evening. Not a feed. When you have seen today's, you are finished for the day.
Reasons you can read. Every suggestion says why it was made, in a sentence, built only from things both of you have chosen to show. If we cannot explain a suggestion, we do not make it.
Distance, never a location. You see roughly how many kilometres away somebody is, never where they are. There is no exact coordinate in the database to leak.
Gender as you describe it. An open list, with free text, and the option to keep it off your profile. Transgender members are members. There is no separate category and no filter that treats anyone as a type of profile rather than a person.
Things we have decided not to build
A read receipt you cannot turn off. Anxiety is not engagement.
Paid visibility. Nobody can buy their way to the top of your evening. The order is about fit, and money is not an input to it.
Streaks and other retention machinery. Meeting someone is the point. An app that punishes you for going quiet has stopped being about that.
Advertising and third party analytics. The signed-in product sends nothing about you to anybody else.
Where this is
DuskMeet is open at duskmeet.com and free to use. There are no member numbers on this site: we publish figures only when we can stand behind them.
If you want the detail rather than the summary, the how it works page describes the mechanics, and security describes what protects the data.
